Regulations Covering Premium Rate Services

Providers of premium rate services need to adhere to a strict set of guidelines that protect the public from unscrupulous traders. In the UK, X-on has an exemplary record in the provision of premium rate numbers and lines coupled with PhonepayPlus compliance (www.phonepayplus.org.uk).

PhonepayPlus regulates premium rate products or services that are charged to users' landline phone bills or mobile phone accounts, such as helplines, TV voting, competitions, adult entertainment, content downloads, news alerts and interactive games.

Australian Premium Rate Services

In Australia the industry is governed by the Australian Communications Authority with The Communications Alliance (www.commsalliance.com.au) being the peak body for the Australian communications industry. Although the guidelines covering premium rate services in Australia are less strcitly defined than in the UK, the ACA and Comms Alliance continue to monitor the activities of premium rate providers, and are involved in an ongoing process to tighten regulations covering premium rate SMS and phone services.

As X-on's premium rate services adhere to strict PhonepayPlus regulations we ensure our clients are unlikely to fall foul of Australian guidelines.
